There has been a series of many events that God brought about in our lives as a family to make clear that He wants us here in Williamsburg, Virginia, to serve Him by making the Gospel message known to an area that has been one of the fastest growing areas in all of Virginia for the past 20 years and is projected to do so for at least another 20 years. With the desire of being a blessing and honoring the Lord, we thought it would be good to let folks read an overview of what God has brought to pass in a most amazing manner – in a way that only He could do!
The Fox family prayed for several years for the Lord to make His will known to them. Pastor Fox sought the counsel of God’s Word, and godly Pastors as he was serving in an area of Pennsylvania that he loved, labored, and prayed for that the Lord would do a great work. As they continued to serve the Lord, He laid the area of Southeastern Williamsburg along with the many folks there who serve in the United States military at Fort Eustis on his heart. Through subsequent visits for several years to the area, the Foxes saw the phenomenal growth in the population and realized that there was much to be done for the Lord Jesus here. After reviewing the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission report from December of 2012 – the facts were clear – this area is expanding and is in great need of an independent Baptist church between Williamsburg and Fort Eustis!
A verse that God laid on Pastor Foxes heart early in the Spring of 2014 is this: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6b That verse would continue to prove itself many times over the next year.
For the Foxes, this was not an easy choice . . . for their lives, blood, and toil were in this area for the past 30 years along with many precious memories of family and friends. Their children had spent their lives growing up and learning about life, and death, on their little farm where they had raised beef cattle, milk cows, chickens, pigs, a horse and the dogs & cats that come along with rural farm! We knew that God had a far greater purpose than our own and that we had no right to say whether we would stay or go. As God tells us in Romans 14:8, “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.” Souls are far more important than our personal desires, plans and wishes! We will stand before the Lord Jesus someday and answer to Him for how we have lived our lives – for Him or for ourselves. To live for Him is far greater!
In the Spring of 2014 they listed their home property for sale. Two days after their house was listed a solid buyer inquired and and within the week the house was under contract to close within 8 weeks – now it was time to visit the Williamsburg area to find the house where the Lord would have them live . . . and start packing!
After two week long visits, the Foxes found the home they had God’s complete peace about and went under contract to buy it. Two weeks before closing on their house in Pennsylvania the buyers walked away from buying it – after the bank changed the terms!
However, God had something far more important in store – confirmation – a confirmation from God that this indeed is what He wants to do and that this is not of human effort! The house in Virginia where they had such peace, would have to be let go and put back on the market for sale – if it truly was meant of the Lord then it would be available at the right time. Then we needed to move all of the packed up items into the basement, so the house would be presentable for showings – it was obviously not the way you plan to sell a house and move! But God does not make mistakes.
By September and eight showings, our house in PA would have another buyer. Within minutes after signing the paperwork to sell the house, Pastor Fox called the agent in Virginia and to their amazement, the house they felt so strongly about and had almost purchased three months before was still on the market for sale, and, some needed work had been done to it! This was a most amazing event as the housing market in the Williamsburg area is a fast moving one as we had learned in our search for a home in the Spring.
God provided work for Pastor Fox and his oldest son when they visited the Williamsburg area during the last week of October on the very last day they were there that week. Within one hours time they both were hired and on their way back to continue preparations for moving.
One huge hurdle needed to be cleared – the house in Pennsylvania was being sold in two parts: the sale of the property and, the sale of the mineral rights. However, the buyers bank was not in agreement with the buyers terms of the sale of the mineral rights. This major issue was not resolved after almost two months – and the trucks are being loaded – it is the day before the closing on the house and the mineral rights matter is unresolved.
While we are loading the moving trucks, the Lord impressed on Mrs. Fox to call the buyers of the mineral rights – she gets an answering machine and leaves her plea to agree to the terms from the buyers of the property. Two hours later our lawyer called at 3:30pm to let us know that the mineral rights buyers conceded to the terms of the buyers for the property. HALLELUJAH!
But the process is not done, the funds to be paid to us for the mineral rights were delayed from Texas to Pennsylvania the next morning. Fifteen minutes after we signed the deed for the mineral rights the funds arrived and they were promised to be in Virginia for our closing agent by the afternoon. The closing for the sale of the house and property went very smoothly!
However, the funds from the mineral rights did not get processed in time to be sent electronically and had to wait until the next day! More delay or God showing that HE will provide? Indeed HE did just that! The funds arrived at the closing agent just fifteen minutes before we signed the closing paperwork for the house here – were we live today.
This past summer, the Harbor Baptist Church joined together with us and became our “sending Church” to assist the work of this greatly needed church planting ministry. We are thrilled and honored to be together with Pastor C.J. Prather and the dear folks at Harbor Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia!
“GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS, OH GOD OUR FATHER!”
May our lives and this ministry be “TO THE GLORY OF GOD. AMEN”
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
“Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.” Matthew 19:27-30
